10 TIPS TO BE A SUCCESSFUL MENTOR
- Have marketing and professional experience to share.
- Be willing to serve as a role model and resourceful person.
- Commit to guiding the Mentee on how to improve their skills and excel as a Parking Professional.
- Demonstrate patience and understanding with the Mentee always providing positive feedback.
- Provide an unbiased perspective on career and professional issues that may affect the Mentee’s career growth.
- Be prepared to ask constructive questions and engage with your Mentee.
- Be a good listener with your Mentee.
- Always demonstrate sensitivity to your Mentee’s junior experience, age, background and culture.
- Create a comfortable environment for your Mentee with minimal interruptions.
- Enjoy your mentoring experience and the opportunity to share your knowledge and experience with your Mentee who is eager to learn from you.
Role of the Mentor
- Be available and responsive.
- Participate in all sessions and serve as an unbiased counselor with whom Mentee can discuss work-related issues or self-awareness of areas for improvement.
- Provide positive suggestions and constructive advice on how to improve skills, performance and communication.
- Provide guidance on how Mentee may improve work proficiency and productivity.
- Work alongside Mentee in their development of a personal business plan and roadmap to achieve future goals.
- Coach Mentees based on the Mentor’s success stories and achievements on best practices to differentiate their value as a marketer.
MENTOR REQUIREMENTS
- You must be an NEPC Parking Council member for the course of the matched period.
- You must commit to participating in the Mentor/Mentee relationship for the full 6-month period.
- You must commit to meeting with your Mentee in-person/video call at least once within the first month of being matched to them.
- You must commit to meeting with them in–person, via video chat or phone at least once a month for all other months.
- You must be able and willing to keep any and all communications within your Mentor/Mentee relationship confidential.
- You should not actively look to hire or enter into a work relationship with a Mentee while you are formally connected in this program (for the 6-month period).
- You must fill out a Mentor Interest Form and answer all questions in it.
- You must be willing to meet all program requirements.
- You must be willing to proactively reach out to the designated member of the mentoring committee if any problems arise in your Mentor/Mentee relationship.
- You must be employed in a parking or mobility discipline, including parking operator, services provider, equipment manufacturer, technology
- You must be willing to complete an evaluation of the program at the end of the formal 8-month period.
